Octopus wildfire's advance toward Fauquier has slowed

Octopus advance slows

Aggressive fire behaviour continues to be observed at the Octopus Creek wildfire south of Fauquier.

However, the BC Wildfire Service says the fire's advance towards the town has slowed compared to previous days, allowing crews to work on further control line options.

The fire remains very visible from Edgewood, Fauquier, Needles, and surrounding areas.

As of midday Thursday it is listed at 4,200 hectares in size.

Strong winds are expected to continue today and keep driving aggressive fire behaviour.

Fauquier remains under evacuation order.

Ground crews and an industry-led strike team continue to establish control lines around the town. Structure protection units are in place and a mass water delivery system is now on location.

There are currently 21 firefighters, two helicopters and three pieces of heavy equipment fighting the fire.
