Events are coming back

Now that tasting rooms are getting back into summer mode — see the previous Okanagan Taste column for tips — the long-awaited return of culinary events is upon us.

But as to be expected, they will be a little different.

Gone, at least for a little while, are the grand tasting ballroom events of pre-2020. For now, the lack of larger events is making way for smaller gatherings, as well as the return of some favourite dinner series.

But take note: as travel opens and guest capacity remains reduced, tickets will go quickly.

Here are a few save-the-date items to plug into the calendar.

DropINN and Be INNspired, July 1, Tree to Me Inn, Keremeos: the much-anticipated re-opening of this working organic farm takes place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Check out the new market, Pippin Market & Bistro,

Night Market, Wednesdays through Sept. 15, District Wine Village, Oliver: support local artisans, growers, crafters, and culinarians every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Dumplings, Wine and Sunshine, Saturdays through July and August, Lunessence Winery, Summerland: from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., enjoy handmade dumplings and wine, plus order frozen “to go” Dim Sum.
Call 778-516-3131 to reserve.

Bard in the Valley, select dates in July, Township 7, Langley: the Lower Mainland Township 7 winery hosts performances of Shakespeare in the vineyard, with both evening and matinee shows.

Breaking the Rules, July 9, The Okanagan Table, Kelowna: Enjoy a multi-course wine paired dinner with Chef Rod Butters and Master of Wine Rhys Pender that will challenge and educate your palate.

Veuve Clicquot in the Vines, July 10 at Oak Estate Winery, Summerland: while Oak is getting ready to return as a full-fledged winery next year, for now, they are hosting events. It has been described as an epic picnic party; guests will be treated to Veuve, one of the world’s most recognizable champagnes, music, and food.

Summer Soiree, A Grizzli Night Market, 6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays in August, Grizzli Winery, West Kelowna. The outdoor market will feature feature local musicians, foodies, and vendors.

Live@Time, Thursdays through Sept. 23, Time Winery, Penticton: live music returns with a variety of performers and seating options to enjoy dinner and a casual show.

Yellow Just Yellow, Aug. 14, Lightning Rock Winery, Summerland: a colourful five-course feast with Origine Catering, inspired by the colour, you guessed it, yellow.
