UBC Faculty of Medicine responds to TRC Calls to Action

UBC Medicine to apologize

Syilx Elders will be on hand when the faculty of medicine at the University of British Columbia issues a formal apology for its part in harming Indigenous peoples throughout Canada's colonial history.

Friday, June 25 the faculty will formally launch and reflect on its response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Calls to Action. Dean and Vice-President, Health Dr. Dermot Kelleher will issue the apology in front of guest speakers including Musqueam and Syilx Elders, and UBC Chancellor, the Honourable Steven Point.

The event will also include a panel discussion featuring Indigenous students, faculty, staff and alumni.

The Okanagan campus of UBC is located on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan Nation.
