Studio9 students receive donation from anonymous donor

Another donor steps up

Following the generous donation from Lance and Tammy Torgerson who gave $500 to every grade 12 student in the Central Okanagan School District, another generous donor has opened their wallet.

This time graduates from Studio9 School of the Arts were the recipients.

Studio9 executive director Michael Guzzi says the donor felt that students missed out on opportunities to celebrate their accomplishments due to COVID-19.

"The donor just felt the grads, as well as other students, have endured some strange and chaotic times in their lives. They felt that it was amazing that students got creative with streamed and video on demand performance events. They wanted to reward the great effort and creativity, while enduring all that COVID 19 has brought us," he said.

Guzzi adds the donor wants to remain anonymous, but said each of the schools grads received $500.

"COVID-19 changed the graduates performance opportunities because they normally get to be in front of large live audiences as they play their theatre, music, dance and poetry skills in their pinnacle year at Studio9," he said.

The graduating class averages about five or six students per year.
