Six Mile Hill fire burning alongside Highway 1 just west of Tobiano

The Six Mile Hill wildfire is currently under control, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

Fire Information Officer Aydan Coray said the blaze, which was started by a vehicle fire, is less than a hectare in size.

Coray said six BC Wildfire Service personnel are on scene, along with the Tobiano Fire Department.


UPDATE: 1:53 p.m.

Traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway near Tobiano is down to single-lane alternating as crews fight a wildfire.

According to a tweet from Argo Road Maintenance, single-lane alternating traffic is in effect at the site of the Six Mile Hill fire, just west of Tobiano.

"Crews are on scene," the tweet reads.

"Please slow down, drive with care and remember to obey all traffic control directions and personnel."

Firefighters are battling a small blaze west of Kamloops along the Trans-Canada Highway that sparked after a vehicle fire spread to a hillside.

The Six Mile Hill fire is burning just west of Tobiano on Highway 1. It began on Tuesday.
