Small wildfire discovered near Darke Lake, south of Peachland

UPDATE: 7:47 p.m.

Four BC Wildfire Service personnel are on scene on Sunday evening fighting a small wildfire located near Darke Lake.

Fire Information Officer Aydan Coray said ground crews had a difficult time accessing the fire due to its location, but they are being assisted by a helicopter with a bucket.

Coray said a tanker also dropped fire retardant near the blaze earlier Sunday evening.

The wildfire is 0.1 hectares in size, and is considered to be out of control.

A small wildfire is burning near Peachland, between Darke Lake and Monro Lake.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire was discovered on Sunday.

It is estimated to be less than a hectare in size.

Ron Barkwill, who witnessed the smoke Sunday evening, told Castanet he saw water bombers on scene attacking the blaze, followed by helicopters with buckets.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the cause of the wildfire is suspected to be lightning.
