B.C. had 113 new COVID-19 cases, four deaths, in past 24 hours

113 new cases, four deaths

Another 113 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in B.C., including 31 in the Interior. Another two Interior residents have died from the virus.

The new cases bring the total positive tests in the province to 146,674, but there remains 1,454 active cases. Active cases dropped by 42 since Tuesday.

While 45 per cent of the new cases came from the Fraser Health region, Interior cases made up 27 per cent of the new cases.

COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped by five since Tuesday, to 134, and 41 of these people are being treated in ICU.

Four more COVID-positive people, including two from the Interior, have died in B.C., bringing the total deaths to 1,738. In the Interior, there have been 155 COVID-19 deaths to date.

There are 320 active COVID-19 cases in the Interior. Thirteen Interior residents remain hospitalized with the virus, six of whom are in ICU.

The long-standing COVID-19 outbreak at Kelowna's Spring Valley Care Centre was declared over Wednesday. Twelve residents of the home who contracted the virus died.

Another 62,237 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total doses to 4,165,142. The administration of second doses has been increasing in the past week, and to date, 710,847 second doses have been administered.

As of Friday, 76.3% of all adults in B.C. and 74.6% of those 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

"British Columbia has some of the highest levels of immunization for Dose 1 in the world - something we can be incredibly proud of - and we have the ability to push that even higher,” Dr. Bonnie Henry said in a statement.

"If you haven't yet had a chance to book your first dose, please take a moment to do that today. Equally important, encourage those around you to do the same. Many locations are offering extended hours and mobile clinics to make it as easy as possible for you and your loved ones to take this important step.”
