Highway 24 has reopened near Little Fort after fire

DriveBC reports Highway 24 is now open.

The highway was closed for several hours due to a vehicle fire.

UPDATE: 5:10 p.m.

DriveBC reports Highway 24 is now open to single lane alternating traffic.

A pilot vehicle is on scene to direct traffic.

Motorists should expect minor delays.

UPDATE: 2:25 p.m.

BC Wildfire Services was called out to the scene of the vehicle fire on Highway 24.

They have four personnel on site to support the Little Fort Fire Department.

BC Fire Information Officer, Taylor MacDonald said the BC Wildfire Services are not trained for vehicle fires and are on site to help monitor the situation in case it spreads onto vegetation and grassland areas.

The highway is still closed according to DriveBC.


Highway 24 is closed in both directions just outside of Little Fort due to a vehicle fire.

DriveBC reports the highway is closed from Little Fort to McNab Road. No detour is available and it is not known when the road will reopen. Highway webcams show a plume of black smoke rising from the fire site.

The Clearwater Times is reporting a fuel tanker is burning that is currently too dangerous for crews to approach.
