Multi-vehicle collision closed down Hwy 97 near Okanagan Falls for several hours on Thursday

'Calamity of chaos' crash

Highway 97 in Okanagan Falls was closed for several hours on Thursday afternoon, due to a "calamity of chaos" multi-vehicle collision near Green Lake Road.

Police determined that a Dodge Ram truck was travelling north on the highway when an unknown silver car, which is still unidentified, hit the side of the Ram causing the truck to swerve and over-correct into oncoming traffic.

This caused an oncoming Ford Explorer to swerve out of the truck’s way and as a result of this maneuver, the Explorer spun out and was struck by a Chevrolet truck.

Along with the multiple collisions, the Dodge Ram lost a tire, which bounced down the highway and collided with a Ford Focus causing significant damage.

Due to the myriad of collisions ending up blocking lanes of travel and causing potential injuries, as well as the need to examine the scene to corroborate events, the highway was closed down for several hours after the collision.

Police stated that despite the multiple accidents, there were no serious injuries reported. All of the vehicles were eventually cleared and all lanes opened back up for regular traffic.

Penticton RCMP are asking anyone who has any information surrounding the initial collision involving a small silver car to contact them at 250-492-4300.
