Provincial campground reservations begin Monday morning

Book that camping trip

Those looking to get first crack at popular camping sites in British Columbian will have to be up early Monday.

Reservations for the 2021 BC Parks camping season begins Monday at 7 a.m. through the Discover Camping website, for reservations up to May 8. For camping trips after that, reservations can be made two months in advance.

The province is expecting a busy camping season this year, as people look to get outside during the COVID-19 pandemic.

British Columbia residents will have priority access to the camp sites this summer, with reservations opening for those outside of the province on July 8.

But even for those who log onto the Discover Camping site at 7 a.m., a spot at some popular campgrounds is not guaranteed.

Last year, the website was plagued with technical issues as thousands of British Columbians tried to book a camping trip on the first day reservations opened up. This came after all provincial campgrounds were closed for about a month last spring, due to the pandemic.

The issues caused hours of delays for some, and left many without a reservation at their desired campground.

It remains to be seen if the provincial government has been able to better prepare the website this year.
