Joe Exotic seeks new trial

Joe Exotic has hired the attorney who represented Carole Baskin's missing husband Don Lewis's family in a bid to secure himself a new trial.

The Tiger King star is currently serving a 22-year sentence behind bars after he was convicted for masterminding a murder-for-hire plot against rival Baskin.

And after failing to secure a pardon from Donald Trump, Exotic is now considering other ways to get himself off the hook.

John M. Phillips, who works for the Phillips & Hunt firm, broke the news on Twitter on Tuesday, writing: "Work has already begun on @joe_exotic's New Trial Motion. We are proud to be leading his team. I was sworn into the Western District of Oklahoma this morning. This isn't about tigers, television or tomfoolery, it's about justice and evidence. More soon."

Phillips added that Joe reached out to him shortly after learning he wouldn't be on Trump's list of pardons and, after several discussions, decided to hire him.

The lawyer previously worked with the surviving family members of Lewis, who apparently believe that Baskin knows more about his disappearance than she's letting on. Baskin has always denied having anything to do with her spouse's vanishing, and has never been charged in connection to the case.
