100 Mile House growers were allowed 49 plants, cops found 800

RCMP find huge grow op

RCMP found more than the authorized 49 plants at a 100 Mile House marijuana grow op - a lot more.

On Feb. 25 at 6 a.m., 100 Mile House RCMP were called to assist the local fire department upon the discovery of a large marijuana grow op in the 7000 block of 93 Mile Loop Road.

Initial reports were to assist with a reported chimney fire, but when emergency crews showed up, they found a large commercial cannabis grow operation.

“Two subjects were detained at the scene as members suspected there was no legal Health Canada licence issued for the number of plants being grown across the large rural property and its multiple buildings,” said Staff Sgt. Svend Nielsen.
Once 100 Mile Fire Rescue ensured the safety of all buildings and the fire was out, the scene was turned over to RCMP to complete their investigation.

“A large amount of cannabis, both packaged for distribution and in various stages of growth, were seized or destroyed. RCMP, working with Health Canada, determined that the property had an active 49 plant licence. As such, 49 plants out of more than 800 seized or destroyed plants were left for the caretakers,” said Nielsen.

All other licences found in the residence were not for that location or were expired. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending against the two individuals located at the property.
