Good news for people living within the Cariboo-Chilcotin health region.

Interior Health says a COVID-19 cluster in the area has now been contained.

The cluster was first declared Jan. 20 when it was learned 214 positive cases had been recorded since the beginning of the year.

Since then, 421 cases had been connected to the cluster. Thirty-three cases remain active and in self-isolation, while 388 have recovered.

No deaths have been recorded.

"Given the decline in cases and manageable COVID-19 circulation, the Interior Health chief medical health officer considers the cluster contained," officials said in a brief news release Tuesday.

"Interior Health is thankful for the support of local First Nations Chiefs, elected officials, and community leaders as we support the community together."

With cases of COVID-19 still occurring in the area and other communities, people in all communities should remain vigilant in following COVID-19 precautions:

• Keep to your household bubbles and avoid social gatherings.
• Stay home when you are sick and get tested if you have any symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
• Practice physical distancing
• Wear a mask.
• Wash your hands often
• Avoid all non-essential travel
