Senior mauled by cougar

A 69-year-old man suffered major injuries to his hands and face after he was mauled by a cougar Monday afternoon.

Officials with the BC Conservation Service say the attack occurred near his property in the Soo Valley between Whistler and Pemberton.

Details are sketchy at the moment, however, conservation officers are at the site investigating.

The unidentified man has been taken to hospital. He is said to be in stable condition.

Whistler RCMP were first on scene, and were able to euthanize the cougar.

"The COS does not believe there is any risk to the public at this time," a brief news release states.

Further updates will be released Tuesday.
