Kamloops men facing serious charges stemming from September break-ins, assault

Charges for break-in, assault

A trio of Kamloops men facing serious charges stemming from a pair of alleged break-ins and an assault last fall have opted to head straight to trial in B.C. Supreme Court.

Xavier Sky Kalelest, Lawrence Lloyd Pooli and David Jeffrey Tremblay are facing charges of unlawful confinement, assault with a weapon and two counts of break-and-enter, laid after the trio was arrested in September.

Police were called at about 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 21 to a home in the 600-block of Pine Street in downtown Kamloops for a report of a possible break-and-enter in process. The report followed a similar call a few hours earlier at a Columbia Street hotel.

Kalelest, Pooli and Tremblay were arrested in connection with the incidents.

During a series of brief hearings in Kamloops provincial court on Thursday, each of the accused waived their rights to preliminary inquiry and opted trial by judge alone in B.C. Supreme Court.

The three men, each of whom remain in custody, are expected to make first appearances in B.C. Supreme Court on Monday.
