West Vancouver Police looking for Tesla driver who struck pedestrian in hit and run

Driver hit pedestrian, took off

West Vancouver Police are looking for the driver of a white Tesla they say struck down a pedestrian early Monday and fled the scene.

The 58-year-old victim was pushing a shopping cart across Taylor Way about 7 a.m. when a driver coming down the hill struck him, said Const. Kevin Goodmurphy, West Vancouver police spokesman.

“We believe that the driver would have known that they had hit someone,” Goodmurphy said.

The victim received non-life-threatening injuries – mostly bruising – but was taken to hospital as a precaution, Goodmurphy said.

Witnesses at the scene did not get the driver’s licence plate number, but Goodmurphy said police are looking for a white Tesla Model X, likely with damage to the driver’s-side headlight/front wheel area. Witnesses told police they last saw the suspect vehicle headed for Lions Gate Bridge.

Now investigators are hoping more witnesses will come forward – particularly anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area around that time.

“There are a lot of commuters that are coming down Taylor Way around that time to their jobs in the city,” he said. “We’re looking for a licence plate – anything that will help identify the registered owner of the vehicle.”

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact West Vancouver police at 604-925-7300 and to reference police file 21-636.
