New outbreak at care home

A fourth active outbreak has been declared at a Tri-City seniors home — this time at Coquitlam’s Lakeshore Care Centre.

One resident and one staff member have tested positive for the coronavirus at the long-term care facility, run by The Care Group at 657 Gatensbury Street.

“Fraser Health is also working with each site to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families,” said a spokesperson for Fraser Health in a press release.

The health authority said its supporting staff at Lakeshore. Visitors, meanwhile have been restricted throughout the facility and staff and residents movement has been curtailed. Further cleaning and infection control measures have been ramped up and twice-a-day screening for the coronavirus has been rolled out, according to the health authority.

Any family members not yet notified of the situation are in the process of being notified.

The latest outbreak comes as staff at Belvedere Seniors Care Centre in Coquitlam work to snuff out an outbreak in which four people have died and 48 have tested positive for the coronavirus.

In Port Coquitlam at the Hawthorne Seniors Care Community, Fraser Health staff and the home’s workers continue to battle two simultaneous COVID-19 outbreaks at the facility, which have claimed a total of three lives and infected a total of 44 staff and residents.
