A mild November held few surprises for Kamloops residents

November had warmth

If you thought it was a mild November, the statistics back you up.

While no records were broken the month saw warm and mild weather throughout the 30 days, says Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang.

"It just seemed to be one of those months that hummed along," she tells Castanet.

While it stayed relatively warm most of the time, it was also rainier than usual.

"The average for Kamloops was 3.1 C, compared to the long term average of 2.1 C," Lang says.

While being a full degree warmer on average is significant, she notes it ranked about 44 out of more than 120 years of records. Highlights (in terms of warmth) included Nov. 4, which was 19.1 C, and Nov. 5, which was 17.1 C. That was the fifth warmest Nov. 4 and 5 on record.

"In around southern B.C. it was warmer than average," she notes. "Everyone got in on the act."

By everyone she means the southern interior and coast, Lang adds. Other regions of BC, and western Canada, were colder than average.

While the month started warm and ended mild it didn't have a consistent trend throughout the month, she adds. A cold period popped up for about 10 days between Nov. 5 and 15, which dropped the average a bit.

Water-wise Kamloops saw 28.5 mm fall from the sky as snow, rain or other things. That was 122 per cent of the usual, which sits just over 23 mm.

Currently a ridge of high pressure means stable, mild weather for Kamloops.

As for whether we'll get a white Christmas, Lang says it's too early to really tell. Current models put the likelihood at 52 per cent, but that will change as time continues to move forward.
