Kamloops

A Kamloops woman is spreading joy this Christmas Eve, and you're invited!

Sending magic to Santa

A Christmas lover is encouraging everyone in Kamloops to stand outside of your homes on Dec. 24 and make as much noise as you can.

"It's an opportunity for neighbours to see each other out and about and get out there and celebrate the spirit of Christmas by jingling some bells," says Anna Steele, an Aberdeen resident who sparked the initiative in Kamloops.

"I'm hoping to give the kids a little bit of magic and remind people that there is still a community out there even though we don't get to participate as we normally would."

At 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Steele is inviting the community to stand outside with bells, pots and pans or any noise makers you want to help send Santa magic to get his sleigh across the sky.

Steele says the idea came from a friend in the Lower Mainland, who posted the initiative to Facebook for her neighbourhood to join.  She saw it and thought it was a great idea for her neighbourhood here in Kamloops.

So far, 41 people have responded to the Facebook group. To be clear, Steel says it's not exclusive to the Aberdeen neighbourhood. She encourages other neighbourhoods to get inspired as well. "The more people the better. Anyone who wants to participate."

"I think any kind of show of community and support is nice right now especially since some people are isolated and we don't get our normal Christmas this year - It's nice to have something extra," she adds.

Anyone who wants to join in on the festivities can RSVP here.
