Pedestrian killed while walking on Hwy 1 in middle of night

Pedestrian killed on highway

A man walking on Highway 1 in the middle of the night in the Fraser Valley was hit and killed by a vehicle this morning. 

Abbotsford emergency crews were called to the collision at 2:52 a.m. between the Clearbrook and McCallum Road exits. The incident resulted in the closure of the westbound lanes. 

Upon arrival emergency crews found a man in the right westbound lane who has been struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The driver called police, remained on scene and is cooperating with this investigation. He did not sustain any injuries but was severely shaken,” Sgt. Judy Bird said in a news release.

The name of the victim is not being released.

Police and the BC Coroners Service continued their investigation this morning. The highway reopened at 7:45 a.m.

Investigators are seeking witnesses, CCTV footage and dashcam footage from those who may be been travelling on or near Highway 1, between 2:45 a.m. and 3 a.m.
