Re: Leon project before council
Concerning the three tower project proposal to be discussed by City Council on December 8, I sincerely hope the city leaders shall refrain from blocking the amazing vision for the revitalization of Leon put forth by Vancouver developer Anthony Beyrouti. In short, please pass the proposal.
Supply-side economics holds that increasing the supply of goods translates to economic growth for a country. I believe the same holds true for a city of value such as Kelowna. Build it and they will come.
When they come, tax dollars shall increase. With increased tax dollars, funding can be found for infrastructure projects like another bridge across the lake, widening streets, and more parks.
What’s more, an increase in citizenry can lead to more influence Provincially. Our province is currently controlled by the voting power of the lower Mainland. Putting more people in our area will increase our share of voice.
Yes, my argument here has some obvious holes. There are several questions that arise. Yet, sometimes we should simply trust the fundamentals of good ol’ progressive conservatism (aka Capitalism with a soul) to help us enjoy the kind of future that puts more money in the pockets of hardworking Kelowna citizens, and allows us to live generously among our fellows. It sure beats the do-littleism we see occur when we over-intellectualize and hyper-analyse an idea into sludge.
I believe allowing the three tower Leon avenue revitalization project to proceed is a step in direction of real economic progress. So, once again, please pass the proposal.
