'Welcome to Kamloops' is a new e-book that invites locals to contribute

Dr. Sasha Kondrashov, assistant professor at Thompson Rivers University (TRU), wrote an e-book with his students, called "Welcome to Kamloops," and he's asking the Kamloops community for input.

It's a manual for people who are new to the city.

"It can be a refugee or an international student, or anyone who wants to learn more about Kamloops," he tells Castanet.

The book includes information on transit, housing, and even where to find free internet... but it's not done yet.

"I'm hopeful more Kamloopsians or community members in Kamloops will be able to add their perspective.  What will be helpful? What resources will newcomers need to know about the city to make them feel welcome?" Kondrashov explains.

The e-book is not just for newcomers. It also helps promote local tourism.

"Anytime anybody brings education and information around our city is a good thing and we are very supporting of all things that come out of Thompson Rivers University and this is just one more innovative initiative that they are heading up and we are very excited to support wherever we can," says Beverley DeSantis, CEO of Tourism Kamloops.

If you're interested in contributing to Kondrashov's book or have ideas you would like to add, you can email him.
