Control your dog, asks Canada Post

Keep dogs from the mailman

With the “dog days” of summer here and many families home during the day, Canada Post is asking the public to control their canines when mail carriers come knocking.

“As much as we love our canine pets, they are protective of their home and their family, and it’s impossible for delivery agents to know how any dog will react when they approach your home to deliver the mail,” Canada Post says.

“Dog incidents can range from encounters with threatening dogs to being attacked and bitten.”

It is estimated 41 per cent of households have dogs.

Canada Post is asking owners to not open the door during deliveries or allow your dog to approach mail carriers out in the community.

“This makes it difficult to adhere to physical distancing when owners need to retrieve their dogs, and it increases the risk of dog bites.”

The Crown corporation suggests keeping your dog in another room at the time of delivery.
