Kamloops salsa company affected by onion recall

Recall hits Kamloops salsa

A recall warning about onions from California is impacting Fresh is Best Salsa and Company.

The Kamloops-based chip and salsa company has eight products on the recall list issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The federal agency has been tracking onions from Thomson International Inc. connected to potential salmonella contamination.

"Check your Salsa ASAP! The onion recall sweeping North America has reached out and touch us here at Fresh Is Best," states Fresh is Best on Facebook. "Not all Fresh Is Best Salsa has been affected. We have traced onions recalled to specific date codes only."

The Fresh Is Best products affected are:

  • Mild Fresh Salsa (375 mL) with the UPC 6 28130 03751 4 with best before dates of:
    • Sept. 21, 2020
    • Sept. 25, 2020
    • Sept. 28, 2020
    • Oct. 2, 2020
  • Medium Fresh Salsa (375 mL) with the UPC 6 28130 03752 1 with best before dates of:
    • Sept. 21, 2020
    • Sept. 25, 2020
    • Sept. 28, 2020
    • Oct. 2, 2020
    • Oct. 5, 2020
  • Hot Fresh Salsa (375 mL) with the UPC 6 28130 03753 8 with best before dates of:
    • Sept. 21, 2020
    • Sept. 25, 2020
    • Sept. 28, 2020
    • Oct. 2, 2020
  • Extra Hot Fresh Salsa (375 mL) with the UPC 6 28130 03754 5 with best before dates of:
    • Sept. 21, 2020

    • Aug. 6, 2020

Other products have also been affected. For a full list, visit the Canadian Food Inspection Agency notification here.

Those who have bought and consumed these products and feel ill because of it should contact a doctor. Recalled products should be thrown away or returned to their point of purchase. So far 69 cases have appeared in B.C.
