RCMP and paramedics find two people dead in Tulameen shower

Pair dies in outdoor shower

Two people were found dead in an outdoor shower shed on Monday night in Tulameen.

Princeton RCMP was called at 9 p.m. by BC Emergency Health Services regarding two adults in need of medical attention, suffering from cardiac arrest. The Tulameen Volunteer Fire Department was the first response agency to arrive.

A 31-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were found along second street in Tulameen, at a property with several tents, believed to be a long weekend gathering.

Reports from witnesses on the scene stated that they “entered into the outdoor shower shed and after not emerging for about an hour, the door was forced open and the two were found on the floor unconscious.”

According to Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the BC RCMP Southeast District, the man and woman were both pulled from the building by bystanders and emergency first responders performed CPR. Despite the best efforts of all those involved, both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Criminality is not believed to be involved in the deaths of either individual by RCMP.

So far, investigators at the scene discovered that the shower out-building was supplied with an on-demand propane hot water system. First responders reported that a heavy odour of propane was present at the scene.

Currently the BC Coroners Service is conducting an independent investigation on the unexpected deaths, looking into how, where, when and by what means they occurred.

The identities of the deceased will not be released under the privacy of the Coroner’s Act.
