Police warn public after finding needle in Beacon Hill Park

Needle found in BC park

Victoria police are warning people to watch out for poking hazards after finding a used, uncapped needle tied to a railing in a popular B.C. park.

CTV News Vancouver is reporting that a needle was found attached to a railing in Beacon Hill Park, in Victoria Sunday afternoon.

The needle was found on the west side of the park, near a high traffic area and there was a small amount of blood on the needle. Police believe the needle was placed, "with the intent to cause injury."

Campers have begun using the park frequently and one such camper tells CTV News, "nobody in this camp or this area would do anything like that because we're trying as much as we can to keep the place clean and trying to make sure everyone is comfortable," Tristan Joe, says.

The needle was safely disposed of and others in the area wonder how the needle got placed in such an obvious position.

"Was it some Good Samaritan who found it and put it up? Was it somebody who staged (it) so that we would become upset," Karen Jackson, a regular park user, says.

Victoria police have previously told CTV News that the Burnside Gorge neighbourhood has become a magnet for crime in the area.
