Small plane crash lands in Wholesale Club parking lot

Crash landing in parking lot

UPDATE 2:05 p.m.

The Nelson Police Department tells Castanet they received multiple reports of a plane crash in the 400 block of Lakeside Drive in Nelson B.C. just before 9:30 Monday morning.

Both Nelson Police and Fire and Rescue responded to the area and discovered a small plane crashed in the parking lot of the Wholesale Club located at 402 Lakeside Drive.

"The two occupants of the plane sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital," says Nelson Police Sgt. Anstey.

Nelson Police Department and Transport Canada continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

Preliminary findings indicate the plane was attempting to land at Nelson Airport (CZNL), when a wind gust caused the plane to be blown away from the runway and forced it to land in the parking lot of the Wholesale Club. One vehicle in the parking lot received minor damage, other than that no one else was injured.

The plane has since been removed and the area has been re-opened.

Nelson Police are on the scene of what appears to be an unscheduled landing in a Wholesale Club grocery store parking lot.

The photo sent to us shows a small plane at rest in the parking lot. It appears the plane is sitting on its undercarriage with no landing gear visible.

Castanet has reached out to Nelson Police but there is no word on when the crash occurred or if there are any injuries.
