RCMP lay charges in connection with Saturday murder

Charges laid in murder

Kamloops RCMP have announced charges against a man in connection to a murder that took place on Saturday.

Police received a 911 call at 10:34 a.m. on Saturday which led them to a home on Clarke Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 39-year-old male suffering from stab wounds. He later succumbed to his injuries. The male victim has been identified as Kamloops resident Paul Samuel Whitten.

The suspect Jason Michael Holm, who is also a resident of Kamloops, has been charged with second-degree murder.

"Although charges have been laid, this investigation is not over. We are releasing a picture of Jason Holm in the hopes the public can assist this investigation. We are asking for anyone who saw Mr. Holm in the downtown area of Kamloops on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, to please contact the RCMP," says Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay with the Kamloops RCMP.

"He may have been walking in the downtown core anytime between 6:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. If you saw Mr. Holm, had contact with him or know anything else about this investigation, please contribute to the safety of our community by contacting our investigators."

Holm is 6'3 and weighs approximately 250 pounds. He is a white male with distinct face tattoos in the shape of different teardrops. He also has a red neck tattoo with a 'Cobra' emblem.

RCMP say the incident is not connected to the drug trade or organized crime. Holm and Whitten were known to each other and there are no other suspects in this case.
