Grass fire north of Cinnamon Ridge Compost Facility 'being held'

Fire 'being held'

UPDATE: 6:25 p.m.

The BC Wildfire Service says the fire is classified as "being held."

Fire information officer Gagan Lidhran says the blaze is approximately 3.2 hectares in size. 

She tells Castanet 24 BCWS personnel are on scene assisting Kamloops Fire Rescue (up from 18 earlier).

"No structures are threatened at this point," she says. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE: 4:30 p.m.

BC Wildfire Service is assisting Kamloops Fire Rescue in tackling the grass fire.

"It's a developing situation right now, so we don't have a lot of information," she says, noting she can't speak to the cause or size of the blaze. 

"We're still working our way inward towards the fire."

Its exact location is just north of the Cinnamon Ridge Compost Facility, according to Lidhran.

Crews are currently responding to a grass fire in the hills above Kamloops Airport. 

Smoke is visible from across the river. 

Reports on social media suggest the fire started after a transformer blew. 

Castanet will update this story when more information becomes available.
