Capsized kayakers rescued from Porteau Cove near Squamish

Capsized kayakers rescued

Two kayakers were rescued near Porteau Cove, south of Squamish, on Monday.

Brandon Austin, the maritime search and rescue co-ordinator of the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre, said the call for help came in around 2:30 p.m.

"A couple of kayakers capsized and were hanging onto their kayaks. They called for help," he said. "We sent the auxiliary from Squamish (RCM-SAR Station 4) as well as the auxiliary from Horseshoe Bay, and there was a search and rescue military helicopter training in the area that responded. We also tasked the Kitsilano Coast Guard as a backup.

The kayakers were taken to shore, where paramedics were waiting.
