Port Coquitlam woman trapped under her running SUV

Pinned under own vehicle

A woman is in serious condition in hospital after she became trapped under her vehicle in a Port Coquitlam driveway.

How exactly she became caught under her running vehicle is still being investigated, Coquitlam RCMP say, but the woman had to be carefully extricated from under the vehicle, an Acura MDX, according to Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.

“There was nothing to suggest any negligence,” said McLaughlin, who said the incident occurred at about 9:44 a.m. in the 3000 block of Burns Road on Monday morning when someone called 911.

“The vehicle had been running and the person who was the driver got out of the vehicle and got trapped underneath. There was a passerby who tried to help,” McLaughlin said.

Several police cars, ambulance paramedics and Port Coquitlam Fire Rescue responded to the call.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries, McLaughlin confirmed.
