Okanagan Science Centre now open to the public after closing in March

Science centre reopening

After closing in March, the Okanagan Science Centre has now reopened its doors to the public.

The centre will be operating with restrictions, but there will be no restrictions on fun for the kids.

"We have our summer camps going right now, most of them are full but we still have a few two-day camps left," says Dione Chambers, executive director for the science centre. "We also have our gallery shows on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:30 p.m., and we have birthday parties available on Saturdays."

While the closure was unfortunate, there was a silver lining. The science centre, if you have visited it before, will not look quite like it used to.

"We've had lots of time to do renovations – we did quite a lot of painting and the entrance has been changed," says Chambers. "We no longer have a front desk, instead we have moved reception into the side office by the front door and there's a little gift shop where the desk used to be."

The Okanagan Science Centre is currently working on a brand new space exhibit, which is expected to be open in September.

They are still operating as a drop-in establishment, but if numbers climb the centre may have to resort to a reservation system to keep the number of visitors under control to adhere to provincial COVID-19 regulations.
