There has been another display of racism and an act of vandalism in Kelowna.
Kelowna businessman Brent Ziola tells Castanet he was shocked to find his pickup truck was spray-painted with a white swastika earlier this week while parked near his Cawston Ave. home-based business.
"I saw a white truck pull into my laneway and rev the engine Monday night, I looked out the window and then it left," Ziola says. The next day he noticed that not only were two tires on his truck slashed but there was a hate symbol painted on the door of his truck.
Ziola says he's been having a conflict with another individual, including text messages which he has shared with the RCMP. "They're investigating and I'm asking anyone in the neighbourhood who may have seen something or has surveillance video to please let me know."
Ziola covered up the paint job and has since had it painted over. He says he was shocked and disgusted by the act but says he doesn't understand why anyone would have painted the hate symbol on his vehicle but he feels that he was targeted.
"I'm certainly not involved in any white supremacist gangs or have any racist thoughts or ideas. I can't wrap my head around why somebody would paint a swastika on my truck."
Ziola thinks he knows who is responsible and he is trying to gather enough evidence so the RCMP would be able to recommend charges. "I'm pretty sure I know who it is and he is shady. I'm not scared of him and I won't be bullied by people like this."
