Man is in critical condition after being stuck by a tractor trailer unit

Man hit by semi truck

A Vancouver man remains in critical care in a hospital in northern British Columbia, after he was struck by a semi-tractor trailer unit Saturday afternoon along Highway 16 outside of Burns Lake.

On June 27, just after 2 p.m., RCMP received a report of a pedestrian involved collision along Highway 16 west of Burns Lake.

Emergency crews found a seriously injured pedestrian who had been struck by a westbound commercial transport vehicle when they reached the scene.

"Witnesses at the scene told police that the commercial vehicle operator performed an evasive manoeuver in [an] attempt to avoid colliding with the pedestrian who suddenly entered into the travelled portion of the highway," states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the BC RCMP.

"Passing motorists stopped to render immediate assistance to the man, including an off duty medical care professional."

The man in his 40s, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and remains in stable but critical condition at this time.
