Lake Country man arrested after striking pedestrian

Flees after hitting pedestrian

A 20-year-old Lake Country man faces potential charges following a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian early Thursday morning.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl.Jocelyn Noseworthy says police were called for reports of a red Ford pickup truck striking a pedestrian on Benvoulin Road near Springfield Road shortly before 3 a.m.

A witness followed the vehicle, which fled the scene, and contacted police.

RCMP were able to locate the pickup near a residence on Terai Court.

Noseworthy says the officer at the scene noted signs of alcohol on the suspect, and brought the man back to the detachment for further tests.

Two breath samples exceeded the legal limit.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the complainant in this matter,” says Noseworthy.

“This person was able to safely follow the suspect vehicle and provide invaluable and timely information to our officers, which led to an arrest.”

The suspect was released and will appear in court at a later date. His vehicle was impounded.

The 28-year-old pedestrian was taken to KGH with undetermined injuries.
