Vernon reports no change in what people are flushing during pandemic

No PPE in the pipes

Since everybody is sanitizing and cleaning more vigorously since the pandemic began, you'd think there would be more instances of plumbing problems from people flushing away items that shouldn't be flushed.

But in Vernon, that's not the case.

Vernon's manager of utilities has reported there has been no noticeable change in what people are flushing down the toilets, and they haven't had any blockages in the sewer system due to items like wipes or masks.

"We appreciate that citizens have been mindful of what they are flushing through our system and encourage them to keep up the good work," says Christy Poirier, manager of communications for the City of Vernon. "As a friendly reminder, items such as wipes, paper towel, masks, condoms, floss, and feminine hygiene products should always be discarded in the garbage, and never down a drain."

For more information on what you should or should not flush down the toilet, you can visit the City of Vernon's website.
