Two men were rescued from Okanagan Lake Wednesday

Boat capsizes, men rescued

Two men were rescued from Okanagan Lake Wednesday afternoon after their small sailboat capsized.

The Kelowna Fire Department's Marine Rescue boat was dispatched to just off the Casa Loma boat launch at about 12:45 p.m. Strong winds had begun to pick up at about this time, producing whitecaps on the lake.

Rescue crews reached the boat at 1 p.m. to find two men in the water wearing life jackets, as the boat was almost fully submerged.

The men were brought into the rescue boat, and appeared unharmed.

The Kelowna RCMP patrol boat arrived on scene and kept watch on the submerged boat, while the marine rescue boat dropped the men at the Casa Loma boat launch.

The marine rescue boat then went back and secured a line to the damaged boat at about 1:40 p.m., and began towing it to the nearby Dockside Marine Centre on the west side of the Bennett Bridge.
