Easter Sunday was one of the coldest April 12 ever in Kamloops

Record-tying Easter cold

It seems Sunday morning the Easter Bunny was probably shivering as it left all those eggs around Kamloops.

That's because it hit -3.9 C early in the a.m. While that wasn't record breaking, it did tie the coldest ever recorded temperature on an April 12 — April 12, 1971 was also -3.9 C.

"We had a pretty significant cold front go through the province this weekend," said Environment Canada meteorologist Lisa Erven. "There was even some low elevation snow fall."

The cold didn't last very long, yesterday afternoon it hit 12.7 C.

This is the second time in April 2020 that Kamloops has been abnormally cold; on April 4 a record was set when the mercury dropped to -8 C, breaking a 109-year-old record.

Erven said Kamloops is bouncing between abnormally high and low temperatures due to a ridge of high pressure off the province's shore causing weather to either come from the north (or northwest) and the south as it shifts.

"Kamloops really bounced around between a series of above normal temperatures and below normal temperatures," she told Castanet.
