Man kicks van multiple times in West Kelowna road rage

Driver flies into rage

Brad admits he was in the wrong when he accidentally cut off the driver of a white SUV Thursday in West Kelowna, but he did not expect the violent reaction the incident generated.

After cutting the man off, Brad, who asked his real name not be used, waved to the other driver in acknowledgment that he was at fault for cutting him off.

“I waved and he gave me the finger, so I gave him the thumbs up and I was like, OK, whatever,” said Brad, adding the other driver then began tailgating his vehicle.

Brad said he “tapped the brakes” of his minivan to get the other driver to back off and was greeted with two middle fingers.

“I moved into the next lane so he could go by me and he pulled up beside me and started yelling and screaming. Then he pulled out this knife and I was like, are you kidding me,” said Brad.

While Brad's girlfriend was on the phone to the police, Brad followed the man who he claims kept slamming on the brakes of his vehicle.

Both vehicles then stopped at the lights at Butt Road on Highway 97. That is where the man got out of his vehicle and attacked Brad's van.

“He jumped out and started kicking. He kicked the mirror on my van and then just started kicking my van,” said Brad.

The man then ripped the license plate off the back of Brad's van before running back to his vehicle.

Brad said he then followed the man along Butt Road for a short distance, but said his driving became erratic so he backed off.

The video that was shot by Brad's 15-year-old stepson shows numerous other vehicles on the road.

Brad said he did get the license plate number of the aggressive man and has given it to police.

Castanet has reached out to the RCMP for comment.
