Kamloops family celebrates daughter's sixth birthday with parade

Bday girl gets surprise parade

Evangeline Dyment rung in her sixth birthday on Thursday (April 9) with a parade.

Parents Tarra and James surprised her with the gesture, which saw more than 40 vehicles drive by their Westsyde home.

"It was an incredible turnout. I didn't expect so many people," James tells Castanet. "It's a great feeling that during this difficult time, we have people making an effort for things like kids' birthdays, that in a big picture don't seem like they matter but to a child really do and to the family as well."

The parade included Evie's family, friends and neighbours. There were some strangers, too, and a Kamloops Fire Rescue truck.

"The community feel of having your local fire station and them being like, 'Yes we would love to do that'... it's just a really supportive and awesome place," Tarra says.

Some even decked out their vehicle for the occasion, with balloons and signs of 'Happy Birthday.'

A couple people threw birthday cards from the car window.

"It's the best day of my life. ... It feels like I'm in unicorn land," Evie says. "Thank you everybody!"
