School speed zones remain in effect

School zones remain active

Don't speed around Central Okanagan schools.

That's the message from the Central Okanagan board of education.

While most students in the district are at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic, schools do remain open.

Some students, and staff are attending some schools.

Until the end of the traditional school year at the end of June, speed zones will remain in effect from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Parents and students are also reminded school playgrounds and fields are closed to the public.

The district says it will also try to enact a virtual recess with the assistance of local radio stations.

They are hoping to get "all students and parents moving at the same time" each morning.

The district says it will ask stations to announce a "health break" and play an uplifting dance song each weekday morning at 9:23 a.m. to promote physical activity and community while many students learn from home.

Families will be asked to tune in to their favourite radio station and get moving at the same time each day, and share their fun photos and videos to social media, tagging the station they listen to and @sd23news.
