Bylands workers who tested positive for COVID-19 are recovering

After 19 Bylands Nurseries seasonal employees were diagnosed with COVID-19 last month, many appear to be recovering.

In a recent Facebook post, Bylands said they've been overwhelmed by the community's support, with offers to help supply food and other support for the temporary foreign workers who were diagnosed with the virus.

Currently 75 employees, 64 being temporary foreign workers, are self isolating as a result of the outbreak, and the local company remains closed.

“Your generous offers have been communicated or provided to our workers, and this has helped with their morale and feeling of belonging in our community,” Bylands wrote.

“Many of you have reached out to offer encouraging words of support and compassion – thank you. Your words have moved us through some of the most difficult times we have dealt with as a company and as a team.”

Bylands says the workers remain at home resting, and they “seem to be recovering well.”

“Many of the workers are reporting their readiness and willingness to come back to work when they can,” Bylands said.

The company has partnered with the food distribution company Sysco to provide food to their seasonal workers who've been isolating, and they've been working with Interior Health to ensure the workers can return to work when appropriate.

“We are grateful for and impressed by Interior Health’s collaboration on our complex operations and look forward to being up and running as soon as it is safe to do so, to continue serving our customers and community,” Bylands said.
