Vees players eye NHL

Danny Weight, a Penticton Vees player, is projected to go in the fifth round of the NHL Entry Draft after enjoying an exceptional rookie season in the BCHL.

NHL Central Scouting has released its final rankings ahead of the 2020 NHL Draft.

Danny, the son of former NHL player and Stanley Cup champion Doug Weight, is listed 142nd among players entering their draft year.

The 18-year-old tied for the team lead in goals with 25 and added 35 assists for 60 points, while playing in all 58 regular season games.

The six foot, 170-pound forward finished 10th in league scoring and led Penticton with eight power play goals.

He added four goals and eight points in Penticton’s five-game opening round playoff victory over West Kelowna.

Weight will be heading to Boston College in the fall of 2020 to play with the Eagles.

Central Scouting rankings also list incoming Vees forward Ryan McGuire at 105th among North American skaters.

The Colgate University commit comes in after completing his third season with Belmont Hill in United States High School Prep action, scoring 22 goals and 16 assists for 38 points in 30 games.

Ryan is the son of former NHL'er and Stanley Cup champion Pierre McGuire.
