Armstrong gym fined by IH after ignoring order to close

Gym fined for staying open

A North Okanagan gym has been fined by Interior Health for continued operation after all gyms were ordered closed to slow the spread of COVID-19.

A fine of $345 was issued to Fitness 2 Life in Armstrong for failure to comply with an order under the Public Health Act.

“The Village of Armstrong’s bylaw department has been notified of the non-compliance at this facility, and both IH environmental health officers and bylaw enforcement will be monitoring the facility. If the operator continues to operate, there will be further fines. If a business continues to violate an order, the same amount can be issued daily and court action such as an injunction is also possible,” said Susan Duncan, spokesperson for the health authority.

Gyms, yoga studios and other similar facilities were ordered closed April 2 in an effort to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

The closure order extends to May 30, but may be modified at any time by officials.
