55 new virus cases, 6 deaths

Another six people have died from the COVID-19 virus in B.C., the largest single day jump in deaths in the province since the pandemic hit, bringing the total to 31.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said another 55 new cases have been confirmed in B.C, bringing the total to 1,121. Of these, 641 people have fully recovered.

In the Interior Health region, 121 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed, with 10 of these patients currently being treated in hospital. Province-wide, 149 patients have been hospitalized, with 68 in intensive care.

Dr. Henry also confirmed Thursday that an inmate at Okanagan Correctional Centre has tested positive for the virus. Dr. Henry called this the province's second community outbreak. The cluster of confirmed cases at West Kelowna's Bylands Nurseries identified last weekend was the province's first.
