Gleaners shut down, donate food - free outside Vernon church

Free food for the taking

If you're looking for some free fresh produce, then you better get a move on.

Starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, there will be a trailer full of fresh produce in the Emmanuel Baptist Church parking lot. The food is free of charge, and will be available as quantities last.

"We encourage you to come and take what you need for your family, as well as friends and neighbours," says the church in a Facebook post. "Bring your own boxes or bags, and please leave appropriate distance from others using the service."

The North Okanagan Gleaners donated the bins of produce as their plant was shut down, so they were unable to process them. Currently there are still a number of beets and potatoes available, but all the onions have been taken.

If you have any questions regarding the drive-through food station, you can contact the Emmanuel Baptist Church at 250-545-5941.
