The Knack: Bye, Corona!

The surviving founders of The Knack gave in to requests from fans and reworked their 1979 hit My Sharona as a coronavirus parody.

In a video posted on YouTube on Wednesday, lead guitarist Berton Averre revealed he and bassist Prescott Niles have received renewed attention due to the global pandemic, as fans have repurposed the song to reference "corona."

"Some people have asked whether we were going to get around to doing our own 'Sharona' corona parody song, because apparently, there aren't enough of them.

"Sadly, our lead singer is no longer with us and trust me, you don't want to hear me croak it out," he said, referencing frontman Doug Fieger's 2010 death from cancer.

In the bizarre clip, he goes on to say that he consulted his dogs on making a handwashing tutorial video, but instead settled on a close-up instruction video on how to play the song's famous riff and solo.

However, at the end, he is then joined by Prescott and the pair join together in singing, "Bye, Corona!" instead of the usual chorus.
