TNRD only accepting indoor bagged garbage and recycling

TNRD waste changes

As part of the fight against the spread of COVID-19, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is asking for only residents' inside garbage.

"In order to reduce the number of people visiting disposal facilities, we are asking residents to only bring in garbage generated from inside your home (kitchen, bathroom, etc.) and ensure that it is bagged and tied closed," the regional district states in a press release.

Additionally, free disposal days have been postponed.

The TNRD is also requesting people limit trips to eco-depots or transfer stations and be mindful of how much time is spent at those locations. Social distancing is also encouraged while on-site.

Items they don't want to see:

• No construction or renovation waste
• No yard waste
• No batteries
• No used oil
• No tires
• No electronics and small appliances
• No paint & other household hazardous waste
• No scrap metal
• No propane tanks
• No appliances
• No mattresses & furniture
• No clothing donations

TNRD chair Ken Gillis says there was an influx of customers this weekend.

"This is not the time to load up your truck from a home renovation project or spring cleaning," he says in the release.

TNRD-run curbside pickup in Savona, Tobiano, Cherry Creek, Blue River and Avola is continuing.
