Soup fundraiser for Discovery House in Penticton off to a busy start

Soup sells out in one hour

The annual Discovery House "Soup is Good Food" fundraiser is back, and its first event sold out in just one hour.

On Friday at St. John Vianney Church in Penticton, the hall was packed and the soup was being ladled into bowls non-stop, with all proceeds going toward the Discovery House's work in addictions services for men in the community.

The annual event runs for just six Fridays every spring, offering a homemade bowl of soup, fresh bun and cup of coffee for $6.

And the soups are anything but ordinary, with flavours ranging from roasted red pepper to African peanut stew, vegetable chilli to black bean medley and many more.

Jerome Abraham, executive director of Discovery House, said this kickoff event was incredible, raising $1,795 and selling out in an hour.

He asks that any chefs out there interested in donating some soup reach out to Discover House, "because clearly we need it!"

Soup is served up by volunteers from the Discover House, many of whom have gone through the many programs offered and can attest to their life-changing effects.

Stop by every Friday until April 3 from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. to eat in or take out a bowl, or get it delivered to your home or office for orders over $60, which feeds 8.

To set up delivery call Jerome at 250-462-1388, and if you are interested in donating a pot of soup, contact Blaine at 250-809-6075.
