Playtime Casino hosts fundraiser for girl with cancer on Mar. 1

A night at Match for Elara

Kelowna's Playtime Casino is holding a fundraiser Mar. 1 for a young girl named Elara, who was diagnosed with a fist-sized tumour on Christmas Eve.

Elara Isagawa is less than two-years-old and on Dec. 31 she endured a 6.5 hour surgery where 98 per cent of her tumour was removed throughout her pelvis and abdomen. Following this, CT scans unfortunately revealed small tumours on Elara's lungs and it is unknown if they are benign or malignant.

Little Elara is now undergoing chemotherapy to remove anything benign or malignant, while her family stays by her side at the BC Children's Hospital.

A silent auction has been taking place over the month of February at Playtime Casino and the winners of the auction will be announced Mar. 1, with benefits going to Elara's family. More items will also be up for auction during the fundraiser.

The all-ages event takes place at the casino's Match Eatery & Public House restaurant starting at 6 p.m.

"We're all part of one community here so when your family is down you support [them] and that's the idea here," says Terry Hayashi, food and beverage manager. "These are all our own neighbours so when stuff like this happens you gotta rally around it."

Entry is $25 and $5 from each ticket will go directly towards Elara. The $25 ticket includes a cheddar burger with a choice of a Budweiser, house wine or house highball.

A GoFundMe campaign for Elara has raised $22,036 of the $30,000 goal.
